I originally trained in architecture, later specialising in architectural history. I have always been drawn to structure, to durability, and to the question of what we leave behind. Buildings endure, fragments survive, materials outlive their makers.

Ceramics carry that same tension. Clay is at once fragile and almost indestructible. It is one of the most widespread materials on earth, yet infinitely versatile. It records touch, pressure, and correction. It forgives, but it does not forget.

I grew up on a small island in the Baltic Sea in northern Germany, surrounded by wind, water, and open horizons. Later I lived in Hamburg, studied in Berlin, and eventually moved to London when my son was five years old. London became both a challenge and a catalyst, a place where rebuilding felt possible.

Through periods of change and solitude, clay remained constant. Working with my hands gave shape to something when other parts of life felt less defined. In repetition and making, I found steadiness again.

What began quietly at a kitchen table gradually developed into a full studio practice, from the evolution of the Swirl Bowl to larger ceramic murals and architectural works. Across scales, the interest remains the same: structure and ornament, movement and repetition, permanence and touch.

I live and work in London with my son, continuing to explore a material that has shaped civilisations long before us and will likely outlast us all.
