Hello Pottery Lovers


I’m Anna, creator and founder of Anna Loves Pottery and today I'd like to show you how to make my signature Forest Swirl Bowl! 

I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to surround themselves with beautiful things and therefore I want to share my tips and secrets with you on how to create this very special bowl and help spread the ceramic joy!

I have been working with clay for many years now and started almost exclusively making my signature Swirl Bowl over a year ago and trust me when I tell you that I learned a thing or two along the way.

 

The Forest Swirl Bowl is a design especially close to my heart, its not only the first Swirl Bowl I ever made but also the one that changed my life in this incredible way and if you have been following me on instagram for a while you know that it is not just a beautiful design piece but it can also be a very versatile part of your household.


The course will be split into 20 different sections with a bonus section of adding a gold rim at the very end.

We will start with an introduction to the tools and materials needed in the course before I show you how to make paper clay and slip, two essential companies in the joining of the parts. After we will start making the actual Swirl Bowl, from rolling out the clay to forming and shaping it, to painting, firing and glazing it — no step will be overlooked! The sections are as short, easy to follow and concise as possible without keeping any secrets. By the end of this course you will have the knowledge to create your very own Forest Swirl Bowl!

**This course is suggested to all people who have had previous experience with pottery (we do not recommend it to beginners). You will also need some basic pottery tools (or access to a studio), as well as access to a kiln for firing the piece at different stages**

ALP Studio is a ceramic practice rooted in the belief that the handmade still matters.

In a world where images are endless and reality is increasingly mediated, clay remains honest. It records touch. It resists speed. It cannot be automated without losing its character. Each piece carries the trace of the hand that shaped it.

Working primarily with hand-built techniques, I create vessels and sculptural works that explore movement, surface, and repetition. The Swirl Bowl developed through this process — a form refined over time, balancing structure and ornament, function and expression.

I see clay as both material and memory. It invites slowness. It demands attention. It holds evidence of pressure, adjustment, and intention. These marks are not corrected; they are part of the work.

Beyond individual pieces, the studio is committed to advocating for handmade production in an age of mass replication and digital illusion. To hold something made by hand is to encounter something undeniably real — weighted, tactile, imperfect, and human.

All works are produced in limited quantities from my London studio.
